Coles Lux
Coles Lux explores the life of everyday objects beyond their original function. Focusing on the COLES paper shopping bag, I transformed it into a luxury object using material and presentation, questioning how value can shift through context. The work reimagines ordinary items, giving them new meaning and narrative.
As an artist, I am curious about everyday objects and their life after they are no longer needed. I collect shopping bags and most of the time never reuse them.
Some shopping bags in particular feel too beautiful to discard, so I keep them and look at them with admiration. I am interested in giving these objects a new meaning and a new narrative beyond their original function.
This initial project opened a new direction in my practice by revealing the shopping bag not only as an object but also as a surface to paint on, becoming the foundation for my “after life” project.
Through this sculptural work, I approach consumerism with irony and humour, questioning how easily objects move between disposability and desire.
Items we rarely notice or consider become vessels for reflection, inviting viewers to pause, observe, and reconsider the overlooked materials of everyday life.
This is a sculptural project where I focused on a traditional object known across the country - the COLES paper shopping bag - and transformed it into a luxury item following the design language of a luxury brand.
The work explored how value can be reassigned through context, material treatment, and presentation.
